“That's inappropriate. Our kids are watching"
US presidential hopeful John Kasich has described Republican rival Donald Trump’s prediction of riots if the billionaire does not win the party’s nomination as “outrageous.”
“When he says that there could be riots, that’s inappropriate,” the Ohio governor said during an interview, which will be broadcast on Sunday.
“While we have our differences and disagreements, we’re Americans. Americans don’t say, ‘Let’s take to the streets and have violence,'” he stated.
Trump, who has never held elected office, is leading the Republican race and has so far won 19 primary contests. Ted Cruz has won contests in eight states while Kasich has only clinched victory in Ohio.
Trump won in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawai, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, the Northern Mariana Islands, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Vermont.
Last week, Trump warned of riots if he is denied the Republican Party’s presidential nomination.
“I think we’ll win before getting to the convention,” Trump said on Wednesday.
“And if we’re 20 votes short or if we’re 100 short and we’re at 1,100 and somebody else is at 500 or 400 … I don’t think you can say that we don’t get it automatically,” he added.
“I think you’d have riots,” Trump continued. “I’m representing … many, many millions of people, in many cases first-time voters.”
“I wouldn’t lead it, but I think bad things would happen,” Trump predicted.
Commenting on Trump’s remarks, Kasich said, “I don’t even want to use the word ‘riots’ or ‘violence.’”
“That’s inappropriate. Our kids are watching. Now…that doesn’t mean I’m not running a positive campaign, but those kind of comments are way out of bounds. Frankly, they’re outrageous,” he stated.
