The Donald could face another hostile crowd in Detroit
Donald Trump could face another hostile crowd at tonight’s Republican debate given that the woman responsible for picking some of the attendees is none other than Mitt Romney’s niece.
“Most are likely unaware that a sizable portion of the debate’s ticket allocation was controlled by the Michigan Republican State Chair,” reportsDC Whispers, namely Ronna Romney McDaniel.
As the Detroit News reports, “The Michigan Republican Party received more than 21,000 ticket requests for Thursday’s presidential debate in Detroit but will only be giving out about 50 tickets to the public.”
350 of the 400 tickets will be handed to “elected officials, state committee members and grassroots activists,” according to Michigan GOP spokeswoman Sarah Anderson, including Ronna Romney McDaniel. The rest of the tickets will be split evenly between the candidates.
Tonight will not be the first time that Trump has been forced to encounter a hostile audience made up of Republican establishment insiders.
During last month’s debate in New Hampshire, Trump was booed by the audience after he accused Jeb Bush of stuffing the crowd with special interests and donors.
Mitt Romney has re-inserted himself into the campaign cycle in recent weeks, prompting some to speculate that he could be preparing to enter the race and challenge Trump if Marco Rubio fails to win in Florida.
Although Romney would find it difficult to overturn Trump’s delegate count, he could still force a brokered convention, at which GOP insiders could oust Trump.
The former Governor of Massachusetts is set to give a speech today in which he will again attack Trump while outlining “the state of the 2016 presidential race”.
According to prepared remarks provided by Romney to CNN, “Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud” who is “playing the American public for suckers”.
Apparently, Romney, who once praised Trump’s “extraordinary ability to understand how our economy works and to create jobs,” thinks that what voters need is a two-time failed presidential candidate lecturing them about “the state of the presidential race”.
