If you can't fairly criticise religion then there's a problem. Also, whether it's in Japan or elsewhere, counties should be proud of their indigenous cultures and resist change. You don't want to go and live in France and ask them to change their culture. You must fit into their largely secular society. If you don't like it then leave. Respect their traditions as those visiting Middle Eastern countries would respect those particular traditions.
