Shouldn't we empathise with the genocidal bugs just a little bit more?
Sargon has previously pointed out that the Starship Troopers state/world is not actually fascist. The world is defending itself from genocidal insects, and the world's military (dressed up to look like Nazis) relies on volunteers, who can quit (see more of that analysis here).
The key point to understanding Starship Troopers is there is a reality to what is going on vs the superficial look of the film. A fundamental idea of the film, pointed out by Sargon, and not necessarily fascist, is that weakness is not seen as a virtue, but defending the weak (or defenceless), is. The problem with comprehending the film is how the film puts this in a blunt way, with fascistic costuming and insane "propaganda" that encourages people to act, while telling the population the unvarnished truth of their situation.
