This 2 hour live stream covers a lot of ground but at the halfway mark Ethan Van Sciver goes into a rant about what Comicsgate is and how it works. The essence is that if you want success you must work for it. You need to build a Twitter or You Tube audience of about 25k, before launching anything. You don't deserve success for doing nothing - and the world is an unfair place. You are not owed anything by the rest of the world (that is an SJW concept). Hard work, putting time into what you are doing, and producing good content is key.
So when it comes to the comics themselves, and comicsgate, the specific idea is to create largely apolitical material that everyone can enjoy - the mainstream audience - that doesn't push a far leftist 'social justice' message. Classic escapist action-adventure stories, with wide appeal. And no particular person is in charge of comicsgate. It's an idea. It's supposed to be a broad-based consumer-creator revolt against an industry that has lost its way. Watch from about 1 hour and 12 mins.
The open is good too, with EVS talking about an ill child wanting to have a Spiderman image on his gravestone.
