Trevor Noah interviewed Tomi Lahren on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” of which he is the host the other day… and it was interesting to say the least. Many in the media have dubbed this as some sort of grudge match. Clickbait titles have run amok. “Tomi Lahren DESTROYS Trevor Noah!” “Trevor Noah Expertly Skewers Tomi Lahren!” The obvious clickbait aside, these headlines don’t actually capture what happened in the least bit. What happened was more of a “discussion.” Better yet, THE proverbial “discussion” that the left wants to have with the right. Which almost always devolves into the left putting the right “on the couch” so to speak. It’s part inquisition, part intervention, and part personal feelings venting.
The interview that made it on air was about 10 minutes long according to reports, but the full uncut interview was about 28 minutes long. They didn’t cover a wide range of topics, but they did cover the basic things a leftist political commentator slash comedian would ask a conservative commentator. One of the main things was the discussion about the subversive leftist group “Black Lives Matter” and how dangerous they are. Trevor Noah seems to think that the violent acts committed by the group are isolated incidents, but Tomi correctly pointed out that these are large groups of people engaging in these acts of violence.
Among other small, micro-aggression invoking questions that were asked during their talk, the big one which stood out and has everyone talking is the question of what’s appropriate to do in protest? Tomi Lahren made a statement about Colin Kaepernick’s kneeling during the National Anthem not being the right way to go about his protest. Noah asked her many times what should the correct way be since Kaepernick’s way was incorrect. Lahren wasn’t really able to answer outside of saying she disagreed with what he was doing.
The appropriate answer to that would have been first, stop harming innocent people and stop desecrating the flag and disrespecting our nation. Then, identify where the true problems in the black community are and focus your attention on protesting those. Protest Planned Parenthood and abortion in general which has taken 17.5 million black lives since 1973 Roe V. Wade if black lives really matter. Protest the bad food we eat, the bad drugs we sell and consume, protest debaucherous behavior that has the HIV/AIDS rate in the black community out of control to the point where 50% of gay black men will catch it in their life. Protest real things that matter, and don’t harm people in the process.
Tomi and Trevor could have had a real “discussion” if not framed in the context of the left making the rules. On a true debate stage with a moderator this could have been great, but without, it was just another leftist placing a conservative on the couch.
