Twitter And The Great Purge of the ALT-Right (REACTION)

Twitter has recently banned several members and/or affiliates of the ALT-Right from their platform on Tuesday, November 15th, 2016. The most notable of the bunch is Richard Spencer, a very popular white nationalist. This comes on the heels of Steve Bannon being appointed to Donald Trump’s White House Cabinet, who also has ties to the ALT-Right, as he was a former executive over at the conservative website Breitbart. Since Breitbart has been labeled as a “haven” for the ALT-Right, this seems to be a partisan move. Other users affiliated with the group have been banned before, most notably another big wig at Breitbart - Milo Yiannopoulos. Proponents of the move say that the ALT-Right preaches hate and racism.

But what is the true goal of the ALT-Right, and if it their group is to be akin to Nazism, then why aren’t other groups on the same level also banned? Black Lives Matter is a group that has not only been embraced, but supported by Twitter. The support comes from the very top, as CEO of Twitter, Jack, has been seen doing speaking engagements with Black Lives Matter big wig DeRay McKesson. Jack has also been seen wearing the “Stay Woke” t-shirt also worn by McKesson which is a slogan affiliated Black Lives Matter. At this point, it’s well known that Black Lives Matter has caused actual harm to people, wether it be directly or indirectly.

A few days before this ban, Twitter allowed the phrase “Rape Melania” to trend, because people were holding “Rape Melania” signs outside of Trump Tower. Apparently, that was not enough to be censored. Then, there’s also people who openly called for the assassination of Donald Trump on Twitter. Didn’t see much reaction from the brass at Twitter over that either. There is also the question of all the lewd sexually charged videos, some borderline porn and some way over the top. So why not censor all subversive groups and threatening messages in an equal fashion? It’s pretty clear that Twitter is being partisan in favor of certain groups. So those groups get supported, while others that are a counter narrative get punished or outright banished.

Twitter is actually having financial problems as a company, and the constant controversy they become involved with most certainly doesn’t help. A rumor was that they were going to be acquired by Disney, but it wound up not happening because of all the controversy. Maybe they’ll be able to survive a weak monetization model, mass exodus of popular content creators, and a highly partisan, biased viewpoint from it’s executives. But probably not.
