Much of the mainstream liberal media is in a collective outrage due to the recent news that Steve Bannon, former big wig over at the conservative news website Breitbart, has now been appointed White House “Chief Strategist.” Every other headline, or byline, says or alludes to Bannon being an anti-semite, racist, maybe even misogynist because of allegations of domestic abuse made by his ex-wife during a bitter and ugly divorce. Celebrities involved with the political process have erupted over the news. Some have even linked Steve Bannon to Nazism. All of the allegations appear to be totally unfounded, so why are they being floated around?
First of all, much of the news comes from “never Trumpers” which is a collective of individuals, many of whom dwell on the right, that want nothing more than to see Trump fail. Glenn Beck has been very vocal about Bannon, saying that if you really want to find the racism within Trump’s circle, don’t focus on Trump and focus on Bannon. Other people on the right like Ben Shapiro (who actually used to work at Breitbart) don’t call Bannon an anti-semite, but they say he cozies up to the “anti-semitic” alt-right.
Second, the liberal media is anti-Trump in general. They were before the election and they won’t stop anytime soon. Any chink in the armor of the President is seen as vulnerable and they’ll attempt to exploit it. Some of these organizations have big time money players behind the scenes that order them to do so, and some have executives at the top who personally feel like they should be anti-Trump.
Bannon is just a drop in the bucket of the total number of jobs that must be filled by inauguration. Some 4,000 jobs in total will be filled. This one position won’t be the first hire, it won’t be the last, and it most certainly won’t be the last to be picked through with a fine-toothed comb. Maybe the media thinks they are doing a noble thing… and in some ways they’re correct. The more they poke and prod, the more those of us that are against them coalesce against them.
