Good Sunday morning on Independence Day Eve. I’m still reporting on the Clintons -- and I guess because today is the Lord’s day, I feel a sermon coming on.
About 15 hours ago – that would be 16:39 on Saturday, July 2, 2016, Donald Trump put out one of his famous tweets:
“It is impossible for the FBI not to recommend criminal charges against Hillary Clinton. What she did was wrong! What Bill did was stupid!”
114 characters – well under the 140 character limit.
But then, by 17:13 something happened – a remarkable reversal. Who did Trump talk to?
“It was just announced-by sources-that no charges will be brought against Crooked Hillary Clinton. Like I said, the system is totally rigged!”
First of all, call me a hopeless optimist, but I don’t believe that. The effects on the rule of law – the foundation of American freedom – would be just to terrible to contemplate.
As you’ll see from at least my next 2 reports, I believe there is still hope. To paraphrase Proverbs 29:18
“Without hope, the people perish.”
But more than that. Without hope, God’s people perish. Without hope, the people will not fight – they will not resist evil – they will not do what we in the Trump community are doing - fighting for our vision for our nation with every ounce of our creativity and strength. If we weren’t fighting for Trump, we’d all be fighting for whatever leader we thought was the next-best candidate.
But people can be easily discouraged. Fighting for a candidate takes energy, effort – and money. It’s a sacrifice. We have to spend our time and money to do it.
In my entire career, I have NEVER put out a hopeless message. Because without hope, the people will not fight. No matter how dark the situation I don’t give up, Find the next best alternate pathway.
I serve a God of hope, not a God who asks me to blow myself up, killing others in the process, so I can acquire some selfish carnal gain. That’s only self-serving, not God-serving.
My God wants us to be selfless servers of humanity. Spend your brief time in this frail body doing what is good and right. Do things that glorify our God, the God of hope.
Now that doesn’t mean I’m going to tell people to walk over a cliff and hope for the best. As long as I see hope ahead, I’m going to fight for it and I’m going to urge others to do the same. I’m not going to exaggerate to create false hope. But there is ALWAYS a better alternative, and I’m on that wall looking for the best path out of this jungle! If you believe me, keep watching. If not, Godspeed.
Back when I was a competitive chess player I lived by this motto:
“Make your next best move.”
In other words, forget about your previous bad moves. Remember, your opponent isn’t perfect either. On the very next move he can make a horrible move as well, opening up an unseen door for you - putting you right back in the game in a way you never could have imagined.
The God of hope always has an alternative. In this case, America is going to have an alternative – a next-best-move.
If Hillary is not indicted, then Trump will win in a landslide.
Be hopeful. Never look back – the direction of your past mistakes.
Never look down – the direction of your fears – the worst possible outcomes.
Look up for guidance. Look forward for the best path ahead.
Encourage others to be hopeful because I believe each of us has a next-best-move no matter what our situation is.
I’m Still reporting from Washington. Good Day.
